This little ditty started life as an exercise in Konnakol with me chanting ‘takadimitakata’ repeatedly to form a seven beat phrase to jam on. A few jazz chords later I had a track to sling around and see what came back. Once again, Moz and Timney took it to the next level.

Without Music…
I haven’t been able to play as much as I would have liked to recently and since music’s pretty much the only thing I’ve ever been able to stay focused on in life, without it I start to notice other things. Most recently thoughts of an old friend known as ‘Captain Disaster’ returned to meContinue reading “Without Music…”
Ebb – Harp
Don’t think I’ve mentioned yet that sometimes I play harmonica. I’ve learned a few tricks over the years from some lovely folks who’ve been willing to share a bit of the old noodle wisdom, most notably Andy Naughty Fingers, Smitty, Kieran, and Jim. So a few weeks back I laid down a track for theContinue reading “Ebb – Harp”
Trip Awake and the 6 Sisters
For years I’ve wanted to shoot a music video on Copt Hill in Houghton-le-spring, a prehistoric burial mound which was home to a group of beech trees known as the Seven Sisters. These days there are only six. Finally today I got my Christmas wish as my marras from the band that almost was, TripContinue reading “Trip Awake and the 6 Sisters”
Back to the old busking set up
It’s not that often I get out busking these days but it’s class to get back to basics now and again. Sitting hungover in the sun with nowt more than a battery-amp, bass and a few half learned tunes to jam around was my bread and butter before I sold out and started playing spiceContinue reading “Back to the old busking set up”
Gear Warrior
I couldn’t give a shit about gear. I’ve never played an instrument worth more than 400benk. I don’t have a dream bass (just about know the difference between a P and a Jazz). However; There’s one bit of kit that will remain in my heart until it beats its last. The Trace Elliot 715 SMC.Continue reading “Gear Warrior”
Sessions – Dave Murray
Sometime in 2019 I was contacted by Music Tech Wizard, John Timney who requested I take a good old trip with my good old double bass down to the studio to help out with a recording project for a man called Dave. Provided for me was number of tracks featuring a bloke playing an acousticContinue reading “Sessions – Dave Murray”
Collaborations – Thirst Trap
Maybe it’s going from years of gigging every weekend to sitting on me Todd for months on end trying not to completely destroy my liver, but there’s something about the lockdown that made me desperate to connect with other musicians again. So I started some shit. Since everything I’ve recorded recently has been dominated byContinue reading “Collaborations – Thirst Trap”
Going Modal
Song 2 on Garage Noise began as a challenge I set myself to write a pop song using the Locrian mode. Being the most dissonant of the diatonic modes there aren’t many examples of composers utilising Locrian in western popular music, a rare example being Bjork’s Army of Me. One thing which became apparent whilstContinue reading “Going Modal”
Coin Toss Jazz – The aleatoric approach.
